INVOLVEMENT WITH PLANETREE

For Huelat Parimucha, Ltd. Planetree is far more than a certification or a membership in an organization; it embodies a core belief held by the firm in “Patient-Centered Design”. We hold firm that Planetree’s philosophy is the best tool in the healing experience. And in sharing this belief, we are honored and proud of being awarded with Planetree certification.

Our involvement with Planetree stems from the organization’s early beginning in the mid 1980’s at the first Planetree designated Unit in the San Jose Medical Center in San Jose, CA. As personal and professional friends one of Planetree’s first pioneers and its first Executive Director, Robin Orr, we were introduced to Planetree and afforded some insight into its initial development. Through Robin’s influence, lectures, and educational site visits to Planetree facilities, we came to learn and value the Planetree Mission. Throughout the years, we have continued to track the growth and influence of the Planetree Model of Care which we integrate into all of our projects.

Huelat Parimucha, Healing Design supports Planetree with every opportunity possible as we believe the Planetree mission is essential to healing environments.

The Planetree Annual Conference

The Planetree conference is one of the foremost conferences supplying information regarding a holistic approach to healthcare. Planetree partners with experts in the healthcare field to provide the most current information influencing healthcare today. A notable speaker to attend the 2010 Annual Conference in Denver, CO is Dr. Andrew Weil, a leader and pioneer of integrative medicine, and the founder and director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine (AzCIM).

  • Huelat Parimucha’s principals and staff participate at annual conferences. This provides a unique opportunity to hear cutting edge presentations on the experiential side of the healing journey.
  • Speaker, Barbara Huelat presented at the October 2009 Planetree Conference with Healing Impact of Color. (This presentation may be downloaded here [pdf])
  • Huelat Parimucha presents a booth at the Planetree Annual Conference. This allows conference attendees the opportunity to learn more about healing environments created by Huelat Parimucha.

Planetree Extender Program

This program, developed to assist Planetree staff in facility visits and evaluations, enlists Planetree certified healthcare design professionals to use their knowledge and expertise to generate follow-up reports and recommendations for Planetree members and those seeking certification. Barbara Huelat is a consultant to Planetree for these site visits. Currently Ms. Huelat, alongside Kim Montague, Planetree’s Director of Design Consultation, has worked as a Planetree Extender for the following facilities:

  • The Shea Long Term Care Facilities, San Diego, CA including: the Magnolia Care Center, The Cloisters of La Jolla, Parkside Dementia Care, The Cloisters of Mission Hills, California Special Care Center, Somerset Special Care Center, Victoria Special Care Center.
